A parolee found slumped over the wheel of a car surrounded by baggies of suspected drugs was arrested in Superior Township on Wednesday, according to the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Department.

A resident called police to report a man who appeared to be passed out in a running vehicle parked in the 1000 block of Wexford Drive, a media summary said. The resident said the vehicle had been parked there for several hours.

Deputies approached the car and woke up the driver, the summary said. Several suspected baggies of marijuana and crack cocaine were visible in the car, Sgt. David Archer said.

Deputies learned the 33-year-old Ypsilanti Township man was on parole for drug convictions, Archer said. They seized the suspected drugs, more than $4,000 in cash, the vehicle, a cell phone and other items, Archer said.

The driver was arrested and taken to the Washtenaw County Jail. Archer said the man was not injured and was apparently just sleeping in the car.

The case will be forwarded to the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office to review for criminal charges. The man was also lodged on a parole detainer violation, the summary said.

Archer credited the resident for calling police to report the suspicious vehicle.
