Jimmy Johns delivery driver robbed in Pittsfield Township
This story has been updated to include the gender of the driver
A restaurant delivery driver was struck with a handgun and robbed late Friday night in Pittsfield Township, police reported.
The Jimmy Johns driver reported being dispatched to an address in the 2100 block of Arbor Circle West, which appeared to be unoccupied, township police said. While there, the driver said, she was approached by a man with a handgun shortly after 11 p.m.
The robber struck the driver with the handgun. After robbing her, the gunman ran to a nearby car where a second man was waiting and they drove away, heading toward Clark Road, according to a press release.
The driver sought medical treatment for minor abrasions, police said.
The robbers both wore bandanas over their faces. No descriptions were available other than they were African Americans, according to the press release. They were driving a white car, but the make and model were not known.
No further details were available this morning.

Why do they call them African Americans? How do we know their nationality? Isn't it more appropriate to just call them black Americans??? As this economy continues to flounder, expect this to continue as well, Thanks Jenifer, thakfully this girl wasn't blown away.

This is unfortunate. I am thinking jimmy johns has a policy when making deliveries such as, if it is a new customer, you must call back the number and confirm the order and address ( preferably by asking for the customer to repeat the address, not by repeating the address to the customer and asking if this is their address). I hope that in the rush to get their subs out so "freaky fast" the driver did not forgot to follow protocol and this unfortunate event was a result. pizza delivery drivers for the most part these days, use their own cars, carry their own insurance, and bare all negatives outcomes such as getting robbed or stiffed while on the job. they assume all the risk and typically make minimum wage. People in certain areas sometimes wonder why certain companies will not deliver to their apartment or subsidized housing complex, ask your neighbors to stop robbing the drivers or step up and start reporting crimes to police, and you wont have to come pick up your food from the store.

I worked at Jimmy Johns about 3 years ago and did not have that protocol. I would say they could have adopted it since then, but I've ordered many times and they have not called back to verify anything so no they do not have this protocol.

That's rotten. I hope they get the wanna be thugs. Though one thing seems certain, and that is that they weren't attracted by the food.

@Slider...Wow never had an experience with a driver...I order from just a few reputable establishments. I have found their drivers to be courteous, pleasant and professional.

@ummsw: As someone who delivered pizza for many years, I find it flattering that you say you respect delivery drivers. I've never heard anyone say such a thing. One time, one of my fellow drivers was so high I saw him pick up a stapler when he was trying to answer the phone. But it is in the back of your mind a little bit, the possibility of getting robbed. Fortunately, I never was, but I have delivered to Arbor Cirlce. And there was an attempted robbery of another coworker of mine, one night while I was working.

Even if your premise is true, it only tells me that it's easier to exchange MONEY for things like drugs or rent or ... ? Than Jimmy Johns

How scary... I have great deal of respect for people who do this kind of work. As a consumer I appreciate the service and convenience, and their willingness to to deal with this potential situation ...as well as the current winter weather.

Why does race matter? Bad people come from all races. It does appear that African Americans are the ones that commit most of the crime or is that the way the media wants us to think.

maybe because that is a basic description of the perpretrators. I am white and don't take offense when the perp is described as a white male.

It's not a matter of "race", it's a matter of identification. If, for example, you have a perpetrator who is only described as "5'10". medium build, bald, wearing a dark hoodie" and you have a white guy, a black guy, an Asian, and a Latino, all of whom fit the description, which one do you question? Questioning all of them would be a waste of time and those who were questioned unnecessarily would be justifiably angry. I do not believe the media wants us to think all African-Americans are bad. If that were true, then when a perpetrator is described as "white", do they want us to think all white people are bad?

"The robbers both wore bandanas over their faces" My heart goes out to the victim - someone just trying to do their job and make an honest living. The two individuals who committed this crime are cowards. Cover up your faces, but you can't cover up the evil mark left printed on your soul.
