Poker argument ends with men hitting each other with bottles
One man was sent to the hospital Friday morning after being struck on the head with a bottle following an argument that began over a poker game.
Ann Arbor police Lt. Renee Bush said police were notified of the fight at 2:26 a.m. Friday, which took place in the alley behind The Heidelberg, 215 N. Main St. The men were arguing during a poker game inside the bar and the 37-year-old Ann Arbor man who went to the hospital told police they went outside “to settle it like men.”
The verbal argument escalated until a 29-year-old Ann Arbor man struck the 37-year-old over the head with a bottle, causing a laceration to the man’s head. During the ensuing fight, the 37-year-old man also struck the 29-year-old man with a bottle, causing facial injuries, Bush said.
Both men were instigators in the incident and no prosecution is desired.

I didn't know you could play poker or any cards in a bar. Oh well, I don't play poker anyway.

Up until about a month ago, "now they break bottles over his head," was just a phrase from a song, to me. I had no idea how injurious such an act could be. Then I saw South Sea Woman, where several people fell to the floor after others hit them over the head with glass bottles. Now a news article gives the details of the injuries resulting from such attacks.

Probably every heroin addict, bank robber, sexual criminal, tomato gardener and parrot abuser has at one time played poker. This is a gateway crime, people!

I wonder if there is going to be any action taken against the bar .Seems like some bars in the city receive "special treatment" by the city authorities because they happen to be the hangout of certain city officials When are we going to have equal tratment for everyone and all businesses that serve ialchol in the city of Ann Arbor?

i agree with sam. many of the fights that have happened at other venues in the past were outside and somehow the cops held the establishment responsible. there is favoritism in this town for some businesses where others are pushed out. corruption is the bottom line, back room handshakes, winks and nods. when some places don't want their stories getting out the stories don't get out trust me i've been involved.

Exactly what sort of action would be taken against the bar? A couple guys get angry at each other, walk outside, and fight it out, and you want something to happen to the venue they happened to be at? Exactly what are you talking about?

You mean bars that generate 80-100 calls a year vs. 1 in the past decade?

I thought when you challenged someone to a duel you slapped him with a glove, not a bottle.

Bravo to you both! they are probably going to be best friends after this. And thank you both for not wasting my tax paying dollars on legal BS and court cost!

Listen, this is a perfectly good outlet for working things out. People dont need to kill each other. One person catches a good'ol fashion ..... Whoopin and that is that done and done. they both think twice about running their mouth!

Disagree, real men don't need to prove themselves to elevate their self worth. Real men have no problems walking away from an altercation when possible.

I think the fighting was pretty manly, everything else was sort of lame.
