The robbery of a Subway by a knife-wielding suspect in Ann Arbor on Wednesday afternoon could be related to two other similar crimes, police said.

A man with a knife walked into the Subway located at 885 W. Eisenhower Parkway in Ann Arbor and demanded money from the employee just before 4:29 p.m. Wednesday, according to a release from the Ann Arbor police.

The clerk complied and the suspect fled with an undisclosed amount of cash, Detective William Stanford said.

The suspect was described as a black male in his 20s, with short dark curly hair and a medium build, between 5-feet 8-inches and 5-feet 10-inches tall, 150 pounds, wearing a dark plaid shirt and dark pants.

It could be the same suspect who robbed the GameStop on Washtenaw Avenue and the Biggby Coffee on Stadium Boulevard in April and May, Stanford said. Investigators were still reviewing the Subway's surveillance footage Thursday to better determine any link.

On April 30, a man walked into GameStop, located at 3225 Washtenaw Ave., and robbed the store at knifepoint.

A few days later, on May 2, a man walked into Biggby Coffee, located at 2550 W. Stadium Blvd., with a knife and demanded cash. He was given an undisclosed amount and walked out.

In those two robberies, the man was described as black, 6-feet tall, between 160 and 180 pounds, wearing a black or gray hooded sweatshirt and black or gray pants. He’s approximately 25 years old.

Anyone with information about any of these incidents is encouraged to call Stanford at 734-323-2628 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK UP (773-2587).

Don't they have large cutting utensils at these places? One could say, "Hey, my knife's bigger than yours and we have two or three people here with knives!" Skewer the punk! Maybe it's the company policy to give in and give up the money. Anyways, it'll be a good day when this knucklehead is captured.

Time to carry self protection legally. I'm tired of punks pushing around honest people trying to eke out a living.

Let's just keep advertising that crime is down and we don't need any more police.

let's just keep whining and crying about inadequate police protection until we have a cop on every block.

Fool is the operative word because some day he's going to bring a knife to a gunfight.

The merchants in these locales need to hire real security patrols, not a guy who sits in his car at the back of a building or a super-annuated retiree, for their commercial centers. Ann Arbor taxpayers can't continue to pay the bills for over-extended development. Security and lighting at the Eisenhower Boulevard shopping areas and at Briarwood Mall are completely inadequate. I enjoy retail therapy as much as the next shopper, but I don't go to these places at night. Does anyone know whether the area between Eisenhower and I-94 is City of Ann Arbor or is it Pittsfield/Ann Arbor Township. The townships have been drawing off perquisites from Ann Arbor, including schools and libraries, for decades. Time they starting paying full freight and stopped bragging about paying less property taxes on their papier mache mansions while getting Ann Arbor addresses and city services. Also time for the developers and advocates of deregulation to pony up with monies for security since they have stripped governments at all levels of adequate revenues to fulfil their basic functions. And time for the public living in it's privatized worlds to begin to connect the dots between what Galbraith in the 1950s called private prosperity and public squalor.

What are you talking about re: school and library property taxes? All taxpayers who reside within the boundaries of the school and library districts (whether they be in the city or a township) pay the same tax rate for these taxing entities.

Yes, this is the city of Ann Arbor. That is why the Ann Arbor Police Dept. is investigating as opposed to Pittsfield Twp. or WCSD. How much additional light do you suppose the retail centers should provide at 4:30 in the afternoon in June?

Overeducated nonsense...

Interesting perspective. So using this train of thought, shouldn't residential people hire their own security guards? Isn't that part of your "over-extended development"? Also, last time I checked, these small businesses pay a great deal in taxes...``

So many armed robberies lately :( I'm glad that so far the clerks haven't been hurt. Hope the police catch the jerk(s) before someone is.

Ann Arbor is Disneyland for home invaders and armed robbers.
