Police arrest break-in suspect at the scene of the crime

By Cindy Heflin

Ypsilanti police caught a man suspected of breaking into an apartment Tuesday night.

Officers were called to the 800 block of Green Road about 11 p.m. to investigate a report that a home invasion was in progress. The caller reported hearing glass break, police said in a news release.

They found a ground-level apartment with a broken window and entered the building. Inside, they encountered a 20-year-old man they said attempted to flee.

Police stopped him and arrested him without incident. They also recovered property believed stolen from the apartment. The suspect had tried to discard it, police said.

The man, an Ypsilanti resident, was held at the Washtenaw County Jail pending arraignment.

Anyone who has information about the case is asked to call Detective Sgt. Thomas Eberts at 734-482-9878 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-773-2587.
