Police identify suspect in robbery outside Ann Arbor bank

By Lee Higgins

Ann Arbor police said they have identified a man believed to be responsible for robbing a woman Tuesday night outside a TCF Bank branch on the city's west side.

So far, no charges have been filed against the 25-year-old Pinckney man who was admitted to the VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System, police spokeswoman Lt. Renee Bush said. Bush said she doesn't know why the man is at the hospital.

According to police, at 5 p.m. Tuesday, the man was inside the bank near the intersection of Pauline and West Stadium boulevards when he saw a 53-year-old Pinckney woman leaving with an envelope containing cash.

After the woman exited the bank, police said the man grabbed the envelope from her and ran, dropping a cell phone. Police recovered the cell phone and interviewed witnesses, ultimately identifying the man with assistance from police at the hospital, Bush said.

The robbery remains under investigation. Police said it appears the victim was targeted at random.

People should take this as a warning that people ARE watching you at all times, especially at places like banks. It is not safe to walk out of a bank carrying an envelope full of cash in your hands. Put it away out of sight before you leave and you can make it that much harder for someone to make you a victim.

He was admitted in the VA? So that implies we have military (or honorably discharged military) robbing citizens?

Glad Ann Arbor Police were able to identify this man. Being in the hospital, they should be able to keep a good eye on him. Hopefully she will get her cash back, and glad she was not injured. Great Job A A P, keep up the good work!

I'm glad they identified this thief, and the woman was not hurt. I guess he didn't pay attention in class - - Bank Robbery 101...dropping his cell phone at the scene? Duh?

He came all the way from Pinckney to rob a woman from Pinckney? Perhaps they should have both stayed home yesterday.
