Homicide: Police investigate shooting death in West Willow

A 28-year-old man died of gunshot wounds at a home in the 600 block of Calder Avenue in the West Willow neighborhood of Ypsilanti Township Tuesday night, police said.
The call for the gunshot victim came in to police just before 10 p.m., according to a Nixle alert from the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office.
The 28-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.
Detectives from the sheriff's office were at the scene overnight Tuesday into Wednesday morning. WXYZ reported the man was found in a car. He appeared to be the only occupant. The investigation continues,
Further information was not released in the early hours of the investigation.

It's a shame how all the good that has been going on in that area is seemingly whiped out by this one (although serious and tragic) incident.

MacArthur is located in Superior Township. Superior Township does not have a post office. Mail to that part of Superior Township is delivered through the Ypsilanti post office.

So ? Home Depot, Mejier's as well as other business on Carpenter have Ypsi addresses along with some homes between Carpenter and Golfside.

Could have fooled me...them too apparently... Not only do macarthur street addresses use Ypsilanti as the city....their zipcode is also Ypsilanti.

So what happened to the cameras that were supposed to end all of the killings. I used to do repair work in west willow. I wouldn't go in that neighborhood without a maching gun in each hand.

Thanks Kyle for the positive comment. Some crime sadly can't be avoided but it is very encouraging West Willow Residents called the police immediately to assist with details regarding this crime.

The cameras are not on every street. There are only cameras at the entry streets coming into West Willow. They don't monitor the whole area.

ownrdgd- I think most would agree that the installation of cameras was/is never intended as a magical device for stopping all crime. As we've reported in recent months the addition of the cameras, increased foot patrols. and focus by the police in engaging the WW residents is showing promising improvements. Personally I'm encouraged from this story that police received numerous calls immediately after the shooting.

John how many homicides have been committed in WW since 1985? I think the murder rate in WW per resident could be high.
