Police: Man arrested with stolen handgun after being involved in fight

By Kyle Feldscher

A 20-year-old Ypsilanti Township man suspected of being involved in a fight Thursday evening was arrested and accused of possessing a stolen handgun.

Ypsilanti police reported officers were dispatched at 8:30 p.m. Thursday to the 800 block of Green Road after a fight was reported, with at least one man being in possession of a handgun. A black Chevrolet matching the description of the suspect vehicle was stopped near the area, police said.

Two men were inside the Chevy and a loaded handgun was found on the floor of the vehicle, and police discovered it had been reported stolen to another police agency. The 20-year-old man was determined to be the person in possession of the gun and was lodged at the Washtenaw County Jail, where he is awaiting arraignment, police said.

The victims of the fight were not located and no one reported being assaulted with the handgun, police said.

Such a well-reasoned treatise, Tru. Why not simply follow the golden rule, and bone up on your jujutsu? Why choose overkill?

Just a tip for the 20 year-old suspect who was caught with a stolen handgun: Generally, it's inadvisable to choose a violent social life style. Instead, try following societal norms where people choose a more sociable and genial deportment absent of assaultive behaviors. If you wish to own and carry a handgun: then do not steal one or buy one on the black market. Instead, wait until after your 21st birthday, go to the Michigan State Police website where you will find all of the information about how to qualify for a concealed pistol license. Once you've met all of the requirements and get your license, you will be able to purchase a handgun from a licensed firearms dealer or through private transactions following federal and state law. Thereafter, you'll have the legal right to defend yourself and have police resources to further protect you. One more tip about lifestyle choices: Choice #1 is living constantly under the threat of violence being done to you, living under the threat of arrest and ending up with only a blaze orange jumpsuit for wardrobe while confined in a room with steel bars for walls and very poor toilet facilities. Choice #2 is one where you'll have much less chance of being the victim of violence or the subject of arrest and you'll have the chance to buy a less embarrassing wardrobe and of living in greater privacy and with more dignity. The only times when you'll be treated like a criminal are when you fly by commercial airlines and when you are summoned for jury duty (somewhat ironic but still better than Choice #1 conditions).

I agree: seeing police nab more criminals is evidence they're doing a good job on our behalf. But be careful, Major, one factor in such LEO success numbers is: "a target rich environment."
