Derrell Evans, 21, and Marchal Seuell, 20, are charged with armed robbery for an incident that occurred earlier this month involving a 46-year-old Ypsilanti Township man Seuell hired to fix his car, police said.
Around 10:20 p.m. on April 4, the 46-year-old met the two men at a parking lot in the 100 block of South Grove Street in Ypsilanti to fix Seuell's 2003 Buick, police said. None of the men lived nearby, but the 46-year-old did not want to go to the high-crime area of MacArthur Boulevard, where the two men lived, for fear of his safety, said Ypsilanti police Sgt. Thomas Eberts.
Police said Seuell did not have enough money to pay for the brake job, so Evans first pointed a gun at the 46-year-old, then pistol-whipped him as the car was being brought down off the jacks.
Seuell and Evans hopped inside the car, where the 46-year-old had put his pit bull puppy while working on the car, according to police.
“He wanted the dog back, but they wouldn’t let him get it out of the car,” Eberts said.
The suspects fled with the puppy in tow. Seuell and Evans were arrested a short time later in the 9800 block of MacArthur Boulevard by sheriff's deputies who pulled the Buick over after receiving a vehicle description, Eberts said.
Deputies took the small pit bull puppy and a handgun from vehicle, and the two men were arrested. Owner and puppy were reunited.
Preliminary examinations for the two suspects were moved Tuesday to May 7 in the 14-A1 District Court, records indicate.
Evans is also charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, possession of a firearm and felony firearm, second offense. Seuell also faces a count of carrying a concealed weapon. They were arraigned on all charged April 5. Both are free on 10 percent of $2,000 bonds.

Why do liberal judges want dangerous thugs running the streets, terrorizing people in their neighborhoods? I don't get it.

Two things the mechanic should have done. Well maybe 3. 1. get paid up front. 2. don't think Id take a job from these guys... 3. after they pointed a gun at me and I was taking the car back down, Id have ripped out the brake line and told them to drive fast ;)

I wonder where the gun control folks are now? There are very tough laws in place for violent repeat offenders who use guns, like this, but they are almost never enforced. If you don't enforce the laws we have, there is no point in passing new ones. Follow this case people. The bond is a clue. If they are found guilty, it will be a slap on the wrist. Sad to say for guys this young, but if they are guilty, they should be separated from society, for the protection of society.

Are these rules not in place anymore? a felony firearms conviction requires a MANDATORY two-year minimum prison sentence if it is your first offense and a MANDATORY five-year minimum prison sentence if it is your second offense.

How much was Mr. 46 year old man asking to be paid? If they can afford the $200 get out of jail free card then surely they had enough for their break job? Pathetic.

Both are free on 10 percent of $2,000 bonds. Why is the bond so onerous? Armed robbery, pistol whipping, dog snatching, concealed weapons, second weapons offense, theft of services? C'mon! Boys will be boys!

John, could you tell us who the Judge is that determined the accused were not a danger to society or the victim? Since we are currently in the midst of a trial for murder in which a witness was killed, maybe we should know who's playing roulette with public safety...

The two men were arraigned by Magistrate Elisha Fink, according to court records. Bond is generally set during arraignment.

Once these men stand trial I am sure the judge will lower the boom on them. The justice system will punish them severely for their foul deeds. I am sure probation and counseling will be first and foremost on the agenda . Take that you wicked criminals. Who says there isn't any justice these days ???

Wow ...$200 to get out of jail ??? And all they did was pistol whip a man, steal his dog, while committing felony firearm second offence. ( allegedly )...Why didn't the liberal judge just make it a personal recog ..thing. After all these guys can't be all that bad. It's not like they smoked a cigar within 100 yards of a school building or abortion clinic. geesh !!! Give 'em a break !!

This is exactly why we have gun crime and violent crime. Possession of a firearm, and felony firearm SECOND OFFENSE. And this guys is released after paying $200!!!!!. Where is the logic in legislatively punishing law abiding citizens rights on firearms, but giving a felon a pass when multiple existing firearms laws are broken with a joke $200 bail. Don't be surprised when this clown breaks the law again, only next time someone may get killed, and once again the law abiding gun owner will be the target of the "solution" to that gun violence.

THough I agree that this particular low bond amount is disgusting, and generally negatively comment about our judges setting too low bonds and too short of sentences, I believe part of the issue is that we simlydon't have the space (nor the financial resources) to incarcerate all those who are awaiting trial. Even though our jail ws expanded, we can only house so many people while awaiting trial.

"The suspects fled with the puppy in tow." I saw this scene, National Lampoon Vacation, right? Motorcycle Cop: How do you think that little dog feels? Clark: Look, I told you I was sorry. It really was an accident. Motorcycle Cop: Well, I guess I can buy that, sir. But it is a shame. I had a pooch like this when I was a kid. [both Clark and the motorcycle cop sorrowfully look at the empty road behind them] Motorcycle Cop: Poor little guy. Probably kept up with you for a mile or so. [tearing up] Motorcycle Cop: Tough little mutt...

" . . . The suspects fled with the puppy in tow" makes it sound much nastier, as though they were dragging the dog by its leash, when it was in fact inside the car. No charges for stealing the pup? Isn't dognapping a crime also?

Stealing a brake job - Wrong, but I understand crime happens. Stealing a brake job by pistol-whipping a guy - This is ultra-wrong, there's no need for violence over such petit amounts. Stealing a brake job and a puppy - Enjoy the seat next to Judas and Brutus
