Police say parolee attempted to steal coin machine at Ypsilanti Township car wash using a chain

By Amalie Nash

Washtenaw County sheriff's deputies say a man who's on parole for thefts from coin machines attempted to pull a coin machine off the wall of an Ypsilanti Township car wash using a chain and his vehicle Thursday night.

Deputies were called to the area of Holmes Road west of Ford Road at 8 p.m. for a larceny in progress involving a coin machine, reports said. Deputies learned someone was attempting to pull off a coin machine from the wall by using a chain and a vehicle, reports said.

Deputies checked the area and discovered a vehicle occupied by a 45-year-old Ypsilanti Township man at a car wash at Holmes Road and Ridge Road. Police said "incriminating evidence" was found inside the vehicle, including several different kinds of suspected drugs.

According to reports, he had attempted to pull a coin machine off the wall of a different car wash, one on Holmes Road west of Ford Road.

The man, who is currently on parole for larceny from coin-operated machines, was arrested and was jailed.

Police turned over the case to prosecutors to review for criminal charges.

All a car and chain is useful for is to pull another auto out of the snow or ditch! At 45 years of age, really a DOPE!

I guess this proves how efficient the parole system is in stopping crime.....this happens with murderers also...is our system working? You tell me.

I am wondering if this criminal is another fine example of our tax dollars at work? I am willing to bet he is a M.P.R.I graduate and possibly at the tender age of 45 a repeat customer of the program.

I think there might be something else going on here. -man gets busted stealing from coin machine. -man goes to jail. -man steals whole coin machine. I don't think he has a theft problem, I think he has a fetish for coin machines--he was misdiagnosed.

You would think that ripping a coin machine off a wall, using a chain and a truck, might attract the attention of people in the area. It was 8pm afterall. But apparently this guy didn't think so.
