Police: Woman sexually assaulted on Washtenaw Avenue Monday

By Kyle Feldscher

A 19-year-old Ann Arbor woman was sexually assaulted early Monday morning as she walked in the 1800 block of Washtenaw Avenue, Ann Arbor police said.

Ann Arbor police Lt. Renee Bush said the woman was approached from behind by an unknown man. The man grabbed the woman's crotch and chest, according to Bush.

The woman then screamed and the man ran away from the area.

Bush said the man is described as Asian, in his late 20s, 5-feet-6 inches tall and wearing a baseball hat. The woman was unable to provide police with a clothing description beyond the hat. He was last seen running on Washtenaw toward Hill Street.

The incident caused the University of Michigan Department of Public Safety to send out a crime alert to the campus community Monday morning.

Anyone with information on the incident is encouraged to call the Ann Arbor police anonymous tip line at 734-794-6939.

How come the street lights are off not working on Washtenaw Ave? It starts around the AA City Club and Brockman Ave to East Stadium Blvd. Who is responsible for the keeping light working? Is it the city of AA or Detroit Edison? I've left several messages with AA City Government. Something needs to be done.

Nice to see people are breaking away from ethnic stereotypes.
