It would have been safer to leave a purse in an unlocked car if one didn't have neighbors as nearby as the Walnut Ridge subdivision houses are. Until this story came out, I always thought that leaving nothing of value in sight when leaving a car applied only to public parking lots and gas pump islands. A subdivision like Walnut Ridge does have many people coming and going like public parking lots and gas stations do. I'm guessing that exterior garage lights turned on for the woman's arrival at the house were left on during the visit, so at that time of night, the purse could be seen in the car. But you would think that between 11 pm and midnight, it would be easy to hear someone opening and closing a car door.

Ill say it again... a laptop safe bolted to the trunk floor and frame. They either have to bring a torch or steal the whole car. Thats if they bother to pop the trunk since nothing will be in sight in the car in the first place. Criminals love cheap and lazy...and fast and easy. Works for me 6 years now.

I recommend locking the car doors.

Unlocked car+purse in visilbe sight=easy crime opportunity 1. Lock your door if you leave your vehicle 2. Take your purse with you when you are going to be gone for an extended period of time

Its never a good idea to leave stuff of value in an unlocked car. Or visible in a locked car for that matter. Its been that way since cars had doors and locks.
