Repeat offender suspected in robbery of EMU students sent to prison for fleeing and assault
A Washtenaw County judge ordered an Ypsilanti man to prison for fleeing and eluding police and assault.
Court records show Dion Wade, 22, was ordered to serve between six months and two years in prison for leading officers on a chase after he and another man were suspected of robbing two Eastern Michigan University students last October. Circuit Judge Archie Brown credited him for four months served at the county jail.
Prosecutors ultimately dismissed armed robbery charges against Wade and another man who was also caught after the brief foot chase along the Huron River because witnesses didn’t show up for court.
Wade also avoided prosecution in an unrelated assault case when an accuser also didn’t appear for court in December, forcing prosecutors to dismiss felony charges.
Wade pleaded guilty as charged to one count of assaulting and resisting a police officer last month. Prosecutors agreed not to sentence him as a habitual offender. His criminal history dates back to 2006 and includes convictions for receiving and concealing stolen property, and fleeing and eluding police.

The quality of the writing leaves something to be desired. Re-read the headline carefully; it states that EMU students who had been sent to prison for fleeing and assault were suspected of having been robbed by a repeat offender--presumably while they were in prison, which would be all the more aggravating. Would that make it not merely robbery, but aggravated assault? Stay tuned ....

Just months up to 2 years sounds to few to me. His history going back to 2006, a 2-5 years in prison might have fixed him. I'm not the judge, so will let it just go.

Good thing it was made clear where these victims attended school. Last I read they were Ypsilanti residents living on Washington St, near Frog Island, and a couple of blocks from Depot Town. Art I think it is very relevant if you find out if the victims are also employed and if so where at. It maybe asking too much but could you also investigate if they voted or who they voted for. With out facts like this the true story may never surface. PLEAS UPDATE us ASAP. Thanks for your great investigatve cutting and pasting.

This paper is losing what little credibility it has ever had because of the reporters lack of journalistic integrity. I've said it before and I'll say it again, just because the Ann Arbor News got shut down you people aren't off the hook in regards to providing fair and in-depth coverage of stories in our area. Art you and your colleagues owe us an apology for articles like this and honestly I hope you learn your lesson, I'm dissapointed that you've walked the path of some of you're less talented writers like Lee, your better than that Art, a headline change or apology to EMU is in order.

Here we go again, I can't believe the reporters at this paper won't learn their lesson. This article has nothing to do with EMU or any other University yet they put EMU's name in the headline. This crime didn't occur on EMU's campus and as the author states in the story, "charges were dropped". But in another example of how this website, blog so called "news" site likes to grab attention with headlines they use EMU or UofM to do so. Art this guy was convicted of Resisting the police so shouldn't we find out where the officers attended college or maybe still do and put that in the headline, that would make more sense than including the college where suspected victims of a case that was dropped attend school.

@SW40, I agree and hate seeing continuous Ypsi-bashing. I recall when this assault happened, and I like to keep watch on where crimes occur and to whom (so I can be aware of my surroundings). If I recall, the assault happened near what is typically student housing, and by stating that the victims were EMU students gives the reader an idea of their ages. Believe me, nothing like this ever happens at UofM (sarcasm).

And why would he prey on EMU students, I wonder?
