Second woman charged with operating meth lab in Pittsfield Township

By Lee Higgins

A second woman has been charged with operating a meth lab at a Pittsfield Township condo, Washtenaw County court records show.

Karen Sue Felton, 33, is charged with operating a lab involving methamphetamine, possessing methamphetamine and manufacturing methamphetamine.

She has not yet been arraigned in court. Felton is accused of operating a meth lab at 3201 Primose Lane, where records show she lived with 32-year-old Winona Tegan Day, who was arraigned on charges last week.

On Aug. 9, the Livingston and Washtenaw Narcotics Enforcement Team raided the condo, which Day owns. Officers said they found a one-pot meth operation that had been dismantled.

Investigators seized a couple grams of methamphetamine, LAWNET records show, and found various items that can be used to produce the drug, including fuel, drain cleaner and battery acid. The site was deemed hazardous and the MSP Methamphetamine Investigation Team was called to clean it up.

Washtenaw County Circuit Judge Timothy Conners subsequently granted a request by county health officials to forbid anyone from living at the home until environmental specialists certified that it had been decontaminated.

Investigators said no other arrests are anticipated.

According to what I've read and viewed on the subject, the production of meth is quite odorous, to say the least. Did the neighbors notice it? http://youtu.be/N1GRoP3zgtE

This story is published under the topics crime and news. I have been suggesting that we must include this story as a health related topic. If people are using Meth, we would be able to help them if we get a clear understanding of the drive or motivation that propels people to use such mental stimulants. It appears that people are having a problem to deal with reality. The drug induces a state of mental excitement which is unreal and the person returns to the same state of reality which he wanted to escape from. So, getting away from reality is not a satisfactory solution as the drug cannot relieve the problem posed by reality. Governor Snyder wants to make Michigan healthier and his plan must include an option that would help people to cope with issues of mental health and facing reality.

Great Job Lawnet and others involved! No other arrests are anticipated? What about the 3rd. person living there? Not involved?

To A2Woman: I'm with you 100% on the meth. Law enforcement should be placing a very high priority on it, not only because of the danger involved in its' production, but because it's truely nasty stuff. As for weed, it's not even close to the same league of badness that meth is in. I wouldn't group a medical marijuana patient growing a few plants in his closet, or even a non-MMJ patient for that matter, with a meth lab operator. People don't die from marijuana, but meth kills.

With regard to pot and the law, the city's ordinance clearly states growing is not permitted in multiple-family dwellings and other non-single family dwellings...condos, townhomes, duplexes, etc.

You should have to show ID and give up a thumbprint to buy one of these meth pots. Does Sears sell them? We should boycott these suppliers.

Bob, You crack me up! Great idea, that ten-cent deposit will do it! :/

We should just require a 10 cent deposit. That will stop people from ruining a perfectly good pop bottle to cook up some meth.

There is a new one "pot" or bottle method that can be done in a pop bottle. Wanna ban those too?

There's a story elsewhere today about the Monroe Sheriff Combat Air Patrol's recent success in nailing a marijuana cultivator, but the WWII Strategic Bombing Survey shows air power alone won't help us crucify these indoor meth labs. Wake up people! It's up to us, individually. Is your neighbor suspiciously energetic? Could be a bad sign. Is Little Billy suddenly happy? Look into it. If you are at the store when somebody buys several hundred packs of Pop Rocks or any of the other common designer drug precursors (including battery acid, bee balm, cholera, MacDonald's relish packages, honing stones and certain non-dairy creamers) follow them to their car, write down their plate number, and immediately execute a J-turn high-speed drift blocking maneuver, sometimes called a bootleg turn, until help arrives. Do not try this at home! Go to the mall first!

What store sells cholera? I'm sure the CDC would be VERY interested.

Great job LAWNET...Keep up the good work! People who choose to carry on with these illegal activities will get caught. The ones who think they can make meth, or grow pot in multi-family dwellings need to remember one thing - others who share adjacent walls with you can smell those very distinctive odors. Any internet search will clue you in as to what those distinctive odors are. You are also putting other lives in danger by making and/or growing drugs in mult-family dwellings. That includes condos, townhomes, and duplexes.

Too bad those people only care about themselves and give no regard or respect to the areas and people they affect.

To those who think methamphetamine production is some kind of joke: In this case, the use of sodium hydroxide (drain cleaner) and sulfuric acid (battery acid) in a reaction which must be done with heat (hence the liquid fuel) is a dangerous, life threatening process. Lets remember: this was done in a condo, where the building adjoined another building and with more home dwellings in near proximity. Explosions and fires are frequent occurrences in such homemade "meth labs." The fumes produced are not only highly flammable, they are toxic - especially to children who may be exposed. Methamphetamine is highly addictive: one can only guess what leads some people to subject their bodies and brains to such substances.

@Barn Help, I believe you should consult a map. This condo is way closer to AA than Ypsi. I guess you just need to ypsi-bash.

LOL, this is not Ypsi. Actually it's closer to Saline or Milan.

Sorry Barn Help, This is going on everywhere, not just Ypsi! As citizens, we need to be aware of what goes on in our neighborhoods. If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it probably is a duck.
