EMU police investigating gunshot fired in road rage incident
A road rage incident could have turned deadly in the parking lot of the Ann Arbor Marriott Ypsilanti at Eagle Crest at 6:05 a.m. Wednesday morning when the driver of one of the vehicles opened fire on the other driver's car, according to police.
The Eastern Michigan University Police Department is investigating the felonious assault and is currently seeking the driver who fired the shot, according to information released by the department.
The victim who reported it was not an EMU student.
According to police, the victim said he was involved in a road rage incident near Huron River Drive and South Huron Street.
The suspect followed the victim into the parking lot of the Marriott and fired one shot at the victim's vehicle, striking the rear bumper. The suspect then fled in a white, newer Mercedes SUV in an unknown direction. The victim did not report any injuries.
Further details were not available Wednesday night.

wow... now we live in a world of montessori driving? sad, sad stuff. maybe if you would all get the hell off your phones and put both hands on the wheel and pay attention to what you're doing, you wouldn't do things like sort of pull out of Barton Hills in front of me, but then realize that you didn't have right of way, but because you are on the phone, you can't put it in reverse. shooting at someone? no... that guy's got to go! but for the rest of it: a LOT of you carry a lot of the weight of these incidents, even though in your little bubble world, you did "nothing" wrong. quit talking on your phone, quit blocking the right turn lane, quit gliding around the traffic jam in the left lane and then expect everyone to let you in when you get to the front. do the damn speed limit! and GET OFF YOUR DAMN PHONES! Peace

Just wondering why the EMU police are involved in this. This place is a long way off campus, and no students were involved....

"white newer Mercedes SUV". Should be relatively easy to locate the few of those it could have been in Washtenaw County and narrow it down to viable suspects.

1) Drive safely and courteously, 2) If you accidentally upset someone because you made a mistake make amends (wave, apologize, etc), 3) Be aware of your surroundings. If you might have upset someone and it appears they are following you DO NOT lead them to your home or destination, instead drive to the local police station or if that's not available some other conspicuous and populated location, 4) Don't wave guns around, you might get shot.

The victim was armed. He should have put it in reverse and neutralized the threat. Cars are far superior killing machines after all.

I assumed the guy shot from his car... And almost all cars that I know of in the last 15-20 years have electric fuel pump in gas tank, and an inertial cutoff switch to shut it off in the case of a collision. The mechanical fuel pump went out with carberators.

The man was already literally under the gun. At that point his choices are do nothing and hope for the best or do something and hope for the best. Personally I prefer taking charge and stacking the odds as best as possible in my favor. Also gas pumps may be in the rear in the gas tank or in the engine bay. If in the engine bay you would be wrong. If in the gas tank, well I wasn't advocating aiming for the other car...

That is the most stupid comment I've ever seen. The collision would have disabled his fuel pump, and the guy in the mercedes would have just gotten out of his car and emptied his clip , police style, claiming he was assulted with a deadly weapon.(said car)

Too bad the victim wasn't armed or he could have returned the favor, eh?

At Billy Bob Keepandbeararms.com collects stories from around the web. The reports of defensive firearms uses aren't generated by them. So how is my citation of the STORIES collected there unreliable or biased? IF no fire is directed at me then you have no worries as to RETURN fire now do you?

Ricebrnr ... That last citation certainly sends us to a reliable and unbiased source. Also, a shootout in a parking lot endangers many innocent noncombatants. This is a hotel, yes? Keep your shots inside your own car, please.

We don't know the specifics of what happened. So speaking generally: If a victim is carrying a gun, then any claim of self-defense would likely be rubbished because he did not avoid escalating the conflict. It is like "flipping" someone off while you have a gun, or picking a fight. That is pushing for a confrontation. It is trivial to escalate confrontations. It is much harder to de-escalate them. If you are carrying a gun, it is essential to de-escalate. Goading someone into a confrontation, and then shooting them, is not self-defense. Nor should it be.

The "answer" to gun violence isn't more gun violence. Neither is pacifism.

Also Soothsayer your "answer" is not as absolute as you would portray. Just in recent days a 70 year old in Fl would disagree http://abcnews.go.com/US/florida-man-71-shoots-alleged-robbers-internet-cafe/t/story?id=16800859 And if that is not enough keepandbeararms.com aggregates similar stories daily.

Cite for these statistics please. Hopefully they are not from any organozations that have a reputation of fudging them but from primary sources.

The "answer" to gun violence isn't more gun violence. It has been statistically proven that producing a weapon escalates the situation and makes it less safe, not more.
