Ann Arbor police investigate report of attempted armed robbery in parking lot

By Heather Lockwood

Editor's note: This story has been updated to say the attempted armed robbery occurred about 9:50 a.m. Monday.

A 23-year-old Taco Bell employee and resident of Ypsilanti Township told police a masked man attempted to rob him at gunpoint in the restaurant's parking lot Monday morning in Ann Arbor.

The victim told Ann Arbor police a man approached him in the parking lot of the restaurant at 2280 West Stadium Blvd., as he was walking to his vehicle about 9:50 a.m., Ann Arbor police Lt. Renee Bush said.

Bush said the victim told police he got into his vehicle and the suspect began beating on the vehicle window, at which point the victim backed up his vehicle and left. The suspect left the area on foot, Bush said.

Bush said the suspect is described as a 6-foot-tall, 160 pound black man with a medium build, dark complexion and brown eyes. He was wearing a black mask, black down jacket and black pants and was armed with a black handgun

Detectives searched the area and attempted to track the suspect with a dog, Bush said.

No one was injured and no arrests have been made in connection with the incident, Bush said.

No further details were immediately available.

But nobody was "hurt" isn't that better than the chance someone especially the robber could be killed? We all know that guns just go off by themselves and hurt people!

I certainly wouldn't call this an inside job. Perhaps just someone knowing about the banking deposit time. The suspect got away on foot, and probably into a auto waiting. Hummm, with the same token it seems like someone would see this happening at this time of the morning.

Ricebrnr, Good thing the victim wasn't armed? are you serious? Let's just lay down and take it, don't fight back folks. If the victim was armed we would have one less criminal on our streets today.

Heather, the attempted robbery happened in the morning. The employee was taking the deposits to the bank in the morning 9:50am Monday 2/28. The would-be robber knew the Taco Bell's schedule of moving the cash. Sounds a lot like an inside job.
