Teens accused in cellphone robbery at U-M face pretrial hearing Tuesday
The two teenagers charged with robbing a University of Michigan student of his cellphone and then striking him with a car as they drove away return to court Tuesday.
Mark Jones, 18, and Billy Venson, 18, are both facing a charge each of unarmed robbery, assault with a deadly weapon and delivery of marijuana. They’ll be in court for a pretrial hearing at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in front of Washtenaw County Trial Court Judge Donald Shelton, according to court records.
Jones and Venson are accused of taking a cellphone from a U-M student that was walking along the sidewalk April 4 in the 1700 block of Cram Circle on U-M's north campus. One of the men allegedly came up behind the student and stole his cellphone before getting into a waiting Dodge Charger.
As the men drove away in the Charger, the car hit the student. He managed to escape the incident unharmed.
About an hour after the robbery, Venson and Jones were stopped in the 600 block of Oxford Road during a traffic stop. They allegedly were in possession of marijuana and were placed under arrest.
Venson and Jones are not currently lodged at the Washtenaw County Jail, according to jail records. They were originally held on a $75,000 bond.

In your comment on the article last month, you said that you had requested photos from the sheriff's department but hadn't heard back. What about now? Six weeks should suffice.
