Three arrested after string of car break-ins at Ann Arbor hotels

By Lee Higgins

Three people were arrested after Ann Arbor police said they broke into numerous cars Saturday night and Sunday at Boardwalk Drive hotels and stole GPS units.

A 27-year-old Ypsilanti Township man, 17-year-old Van Buren Township man and 16-year-old boy were arrested Sunday morning, Ann Arbor police said.

The three were in a car that Ann Arbor police stopped in the 3000 block of Packard Street about 6:30 a.m. Sunday, police spokeswoman Lt. Renee Bush said. Inside, police recovered seven GPS units taken from five cars, Bush said.

Police stopped the car because it matched the description of a car that had just left from the Courtyard Ann Arbor after a car break-in, police said. A hotel security guard called in the description, police said. Several other break-ins occurred at the nearby Fairfield Inn in Ann Arbor, police said.

The three have not yet been arraigned on charges, police said.
