Pittsfield Township police say police impostors forced their way into home and stole cash

By Lee Higgins

A man and woman forced their way into a Pittsfield Township apartment this morning and stole money after saying they were the police, authorities said.

The incident occurred about 5 a.m. at Ridgewood Apartments south of Packard Street off Carpenter Road, said Gordy Schick, the township's deputy director of police services.

A man woke up to hear knocking on his door, looked through the peep hole to see a man yelling "Police" and demanding he open the door, Schick said.

The resident requested identification, but none was shown, police said.

He "became fearful," and opened the door. The man and a woman forced their way inside and demanded his wallet, Schick said.

The resident told them he didn't have a wallet, Schick said.

The intruders also demanded money from another man in the apartment, who handed over his wallet containing cash, Schick said.

No badges or weapons were seen, police said.

At one point, one resident attempted to leave when he was confronted by a second woman who tried to hold him back, Schick said.

Police responded to the apartment complex in the 4100 block of Green Meadows Boulevard after receiving a report of a disturbance.

The residents had never seen the intruders before, and it's unclear why their apartment was targeted, Schick said.

Police are looking for a white man, approximately 22 years old, 5 feet 7 inches tall, with a thin build, wearing a white short-sleeve T-shirt and white shorts.

Authorities also are looking for a white woman, approximately 18 years old, with shoulder length brown hair, a thin build, wearing blue jean shorts and a pink top.

The other woman involved was described as black, 27 years old, 5 feet 7 inches tall, with a large build, short hair and wearing a white T-shirt, police said.

They left in a big yellow car, police said.

Schick said if someone questions whether police officers are at their door, they can call 911 and ask a dispatcher. He also said that if undercover officers are conducting an operation, there are typically police in uniform in the area.

Anyone with information can call the department's tip line at (734) 944-1238.

No other similar incidents have been reported in the area, police said.

The homeowner only saw the man through the peep hole, I would surmise that the description of the woman was after they were inside the apartment.

"wearing a white short-sleeve T-shirt and white shorts" if a 22 year old in a t-shirt and shorts told me he was a cop with no badge or gun... I agree this sounds fishy.

Yes, it's fishy. An 18 year old in shorts and a pink tank top impersonating a cop? Something doesn't add up.

This sound fishy to anyone else? First of all, why would anyone let anyone without identifying them first. Second, I can honestly say I would never be robbed of anything if the suspect doesn't present a weapon. This is absurd. Sounds like a drug deal gone bad, especially considering the area.
