"arrest (sic) 20-year-old males for carrying" Were they male cats or humans? The article doesn't say. Why not say that "...two 20-year-old MEN were arrested for carrying..."? "arrest"? Why not "arrested" as in past tense? Wow, my 8th grade English teacher would have fun with this. So silly!

How can two people be arrested for carrying one weapon?

Standard Operating Procedure, my friend. If something illegal is found, charge everyone in the car. You're guilty until proven innocent. Now move along.

Good question. like i mentioned earlier, it was probably in the center console or something silly like that in plain view of the officer but easily 'in control' of either the driver and/or passenger.. Either way, unless they can prove ownership of the gun IE. Open Carry of a firearm while legal, if it's in a vehicle it's considered concealed, (unless stowed in a vehicle, locked case etc). Carrying concealed of course being illegal in michigan to anyone under the age of 21.

Maybe they were on their way to one of the bars in Ann Arbor. You'd best be carrying something for protection in order to make it back to your car safely.

Hmm, given recent headlines, jim has a good point.

Those of us from Detroit resent the comparison

I have noticed that Ypsi and A2 are getting very dangerous.....soon it will resemble Detroit....what a shame.

Really, if you or any of your ilk are uncomfortable, please feel free to stay East of Carpenter Road. No hard feelings at all.

how does an officer get to search a car after a traffic stop...no info in this story what so ever...typical "journalistic" effort at AA.com

Seriously, all the cops have to say is that they smelled marijuana. It doesn't matter if they actually find any.

It's also entirely possible it was in plain view when 5-0 lit the two up on the traffic stop.. Plain view is usually a good start for probable cause because it's 'within control' of the driver/passenger (Note: I am not a lawyer)
