Troopers seize cocaine, marijuana during traffic stop on I-94

By Lee Higgins

Michigan State Police troopers said they seized crack cocaine and marijuana during a traffic stop on I-94 this morning as they arrested a man wanted out of Wayne County on charges he failed to pay child support.

The 41-year-old Detroit man was pulled over about 1:15 a.m. for improper lane use on westbound I-94 near U-23 in Pittsfield Township, police said.

The man had four outstanding warrants, charging him with failing to pay a total of more than $149,000 in child support, a police news release said. Troopers said they found unspecified quantities of crack cocaine and marijuana in his car.

The man was taken to the Washtenaw County Jail and is expected to be turned over to Wayne County sheriff's deputies later today.

Drug charges are pending.

The moral to this story: If you are involved in something illegal, pay your child support.

The "Driving while black" at 1 am in the area he was pulled over comes accross as a racist remark. The MSP would have trouble even knowing the color of the vehicle at this time of the morning in that area. I am willing to bet he was headed westbound and in the exit only lane to M-23. When he realized where he was at the last possible second he drove over the clearly painted median and continued west on I-94. That would be "improper lane use" not "driving while black". Just an opinion from someone who has witnessed tractor trailers doing this right there very frequently and yes at 1 am. I'm so sick and tired of people pulling the race card in this world every time they get caught committing a crime, or dealing with someone of a different race and having a disagreement in general. It's old and lame.

This is a misunderstanding. The guy was on his way to his duty station as an aggressive downtown Ann Arbor panhandler.

Improper lane use is simply that! (in the wrong lane) $149.000 in child support not paid, sounds like a (dead beat dad to me) Great job MSP for your stop and find!

How is he going to pay child support if you take his inventory? Guvment regulation is out of control. Leave the job creators alone.

"....was pulled over about 1:15 a.m. for improper lane use...." what does that mean?

It means that about an hour and 15 minutes after midnight, Michigan State Police troopers conducted a traffic stop to enforce the Michigan Motor Vehicle code as it applies to lane use. Not that confusing.

It could mean he was driving in the passing lane (left lane) while not passing, I see it all the time and wish they would enforce it more.
