Two accused of sexual assaults against woman in Pittsfield Township reach plea deals
Two men accused of sexually assaulting a woman multiple times in Pittsfield Township recently pleaded guilty to multiple felony charges.
Court records show Maurice Ron Manning and Michael Martell-Deshawn Brown each pleaded guilty to counts of unlawful imprisonment and prostitution/pandering for the incidents reported to Pittsfield Township police on Feb. 1.
Six counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct against Brown will be dismissed at sentencing on March 31. Brown, Ypsilanti Township, also pleaded no contest to one count of assault with a dangerous weapon and will be sentenced to between six and 20 years in prison, court records show. Walter White, his attorney, did not return messages.
Prosecutors agreed to drop four counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct against Manning, 22, of Pittsfield Township at his sentencing April 7.
He’ll also be sentenced at that time for violating probation on sexual assault charges from 2006. He will not be charged as a habitual offender as part of the agreement.
Court records indicate the crimes occurred on Jan. 18 in the 2700 block of Golfside Road. Police have not released more information about the incident. The victim required medical attention, according to court records.

Where's the justice for the victims? I don't like plea deals for rapists. I think it should be mandatory 25 years.

For the latest news on the Saline sex-offender story, read the Detroit New, Free Press or watch TV news! Annarbor.com continues to to be step behind its own backyard, obviously too busy re-printing police reports word-for-word about stolen laptops

Wow, this is unfortunate. Six and 20 years in prison? Translated to reality means 3-5 years with good behavior. Hmm, six counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct against Brown will be dismissed? Justice? Where?

It's lucky for them that they didn't shake a parrot. They'd be serving some hard time! This goes to the intent...clearly they intended to do evil things. These are the people we are afraid of and should be in prison. "Use prison for people we are afraid of, not people we are mad at."....conservative Nolan Findley. (and you how often I quote conservatives! LOL)

bedrog, I like that one! I understand although you might not really injure him, he might be persona non gratia at HV. Doing some good hard work to repay the community rather than cost the community would be great. Time for me to go out and fill my bird feeder!

Since i volunteer at HSHV i don't want him as a colleague and would run the risk of getting busted for " shaking parrot shaker' assault myself. But on the community service front id be fine seeing him picking up trash on the roadside , maybe wearing a mandated parrot suit or a sign saying " i abuse my bird".

I disagree. That parrot shaker should have been given long term community service assignment at HVHS.....perhaps 2 or 3 years...and probation with drug testing required. If found back on drugs, into the jail. Otherwise, let him work for us instead of us paying to house him.

They-- AND parrot shakers/animal abusers--should both get hard time. Treating the latter leniently doesn't help humans...the contrary actually ,since animal abuse is often a gateway to abuse of people.

A sexual assault in 2006, dropping 4 more in 2011 and this guy won't be considered a habitual offender by our justice system? The prosecutors office at their finest. They aren't lawyers anymore, just bargaining agents. But hey, the plea bargain counts as a win for the prosecutor so their can still brag about their "amazing" conviction record.

If those guys really wanted to get slammed with serious time, all they had to do was shake a bird on the way home.

I usually agree that the Washtenaw County prosecutor's and judges are a little plea deal happy however you have to remember in cases of CSC a lot of times a plea deal is struck so the victim doesn't have to testifty. Many times victims are reluctant to testify or relive the experience on the stand, so prosecutors will try and get the best plea deal available. That said, the prosecutor's office and judeges in southeastern michigan, especially Wayne and Washtenaw county should be reprimanded if not held liable for the amount of repeat offenders on our streets. If Michigan had a judges and prosecutors with a little more integrity our neighborhoods would be much safer.

It's true that CSC cases can be hard to prosecute fr a variety of reasons, but I really feel like something directly related to public safety (like "habitual offender" status) should not have been up for negotiation, period. Realistically, I bet they won't be locked up for too long, and I really do think they pose a real danger to others. I'm moving to Pittsfield Twp. soon and you better believe I'm going to think about this at election time. Too bad it's tax money that keeps these guys behind bars. I know there are financial limitations to sentencing, but I'd also like to see prisons move towards a more self-sustaining model.

Unbelievable. Where is the public outrage against the prosecutors office. I hope voters remember how they and their families were repeatedly endangered by lazy prosecutors when the next election rolls around. Not long ago, these career criminals would have gotten life and the key would have been thrown away. As it is, they got a slap on the pee wee and will be back on the street in a year or two to assault,or maybe even worse, your daughter or wife. Prepare to protect yourselves from these predators, you officials have proven time and again they wont.

Wait, let me get this straight: These guys were charged with 10 counts of rape (first degree CSC) between the two of them. One of them was on probation for assault and attempted rape in 2006 and he's only 22 years old. So even though this kid attempted to rape someone at 17 and has now allegedly raped someone 4 times, he's just going to have to admit to "prostitution/pandering" and unlawful imprisonment and won't be considered a habitual offender? Sorry guys, but two points determine a line and this kid has shown himself to be pretty habitual. It does a disservice to society to keep him out of the sex offender registry. (I would have thought he'd be in there from the last offense, but he sure doesn't seem to be coming up.) If nothing else, hopefully they'll sentence them to the maximum sentences available and we won't see either of them for at least 35 years. I guess if there was no other way to win this is better than nothing, but this plea deal leaves a lot to be desired.
