Two charged with robbing 19-year-old man in Ann Arbor Tuesday
Two Ann Arbor men are accused of robbing a 19-year-old man Tuesday night near Arch and South State streets, Ann Arbor police said.
Yshelu Johnson, 42, and Jason Correll, 37, were each charged Wednesday with unarmed robbery and were arraigned at the county jail.
They are accused of approaching the victim at 9:45 p.m. and blocking his walking path, repeatedly demanding money, police said. According to police, the victim handed over some cash. The men were arrested shortly after the incident.
Johnson is being held on $5,000 bond and Correll is being held on $2,500 bond.
Johnson also is currently awaiting sentencing in an unrelated case in which he is accused of forcing a University of Michigan student off a sidewalk next to South Quad and demanding his money.
Johnson pleaded guilty to fraud under false pretenses for the Sept. 23 incident and will be sentenced Nov. 5. He had been free on $500 bond.

I wasn't going to read the Mlive article that leaguebus posted a link to, but now that I have, I have to say that my heart goes out to Johnson's family. I curse the vice grip hold of drug addiction. And I admire and respect his mother's strength and hope that she maintains it. I pray for all of his victims - which include his family. And for a cure to our human weaknesses.

He had 98 police reports between 2001 and 2007, and now is stacking up many more. he needs to be removed from society permanently in aa permanent rehab situation. How many more victims will he traumatize during his life? Of course, he will be back on the streets in a few months. How did they let a career criminal plead to "fraud under false pretenses" after robbing a U-M student? Has this society sunk so low that robbery is only worthy of $500 bail for an offender with over 100 charges and/or convictions?

This is not only the poster child of Washtenaw County's M.P.R.I. program but also a graduate of said program. Evidence of how our tax dollars are not working. If the program poster child is up to no good where do you think the others are at? Nothing more than a parasite on the system....

Lee, It would be great if you could start reporting which judges are handing out extremely light sentences, perhaps then they would either do their job and send the animals to prison or at minimum our residents would know which judges are cowards.

why is this menace out on the streets once again? Send him to Jackson Max. @lee higgins- is there any way to see what judge dropped the unarmed robbery charges from last month and let him bail out for 500 dollars?

Yshelu Johnson's name recently has appeared in the annarbor.com crime news more often than the publisher's. He has been taken into custody more often than Mahatma Ghandi when India's liberator was at his best. Dozens of Ann Arbor police and Washtenaw Sheriff's Department jail turnkeys have come to depend on him to make their boat payments. With so much smoke, it seems likely there's some kind of fire; but, guilty or innocent, were I Mr. Johnson I would not pass "Go," I would not wait for my SSI check, I would not fill my prescription for medical marijuana or even collect my last meal at the soup kitchen. I would get outta Dodge, catching the first Greyhound or Amtrak anywhere at all, but preferring some place well off the beaten path like, well, India. Otherwise, it seems likely the next jail addition will have a bronze plaque over the barred doorway reading "Yshelu Johnson Memorial Wing".
