Two men cited for indecent exposure at Ypsilanti's Frog Island Park

By Lee Higgins

A man was ticketed Thursday night after Ypsilanti police say he picked up a male prostitute, who performed a sex act on him at Frog Island Park.

The 71-year-old and 19-year-old men were each cited for accosting and soliciting and indecent exposure, police said.

Officers watched the 19-year-old man get into a pick-up truck at Michigan Avenue and Lincoln Street about 10:29 p.m. They followed the truck to the park, a police incident log said.

An officer approached the truck after a few minutes to find the younger man performing a sex act on the older man, the log said.

The 71-year-old told police he was returning home from St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, where his wife was being treated. He said he saw the younger man, who flagged him down, the log said.

Gee...his wife is in the hospital and he can't contain himself for a few days??? I'm sure this was my neighbor, wish you would print his name. Does this incident make him a pedophile since the young man was only 19?

Honestly - I don't really like to be nit-picky about the way an article is written but I do think it's in poor taste to include the fact that the 71 year old man was returning home from St. Joe where his wife was being treated...it was completely irrelevant to the story and is very obvious that it was included for shock value only. Who cares - point of story is that two people, regardless of their gender and who is or is not married, were engaging in illegal activity at a public park - that's really all that needed to be mentioned. Ages are often mentioned so I understand that but I think the ages, in this case, also were intended to add some more shock value to the story.

THE POLICE HAVE TO WAIT OR THERE IS NO CASE THEY HAVE DUE PROCESS ALSO.THEY MIGHT OF BEEN USING DRUGS OR WHATEVER. SO LET THEM DO THEIR JOBS. OTHERWISE ITS THROWN OUT WITHOUT PROPER PROTOCALL FOR PROSECUTION.

gealga, I'm not sure I understand your posting, was it I you were referring to? 'It may not seem like a huge crime, as stated by djm' Where did I say this or even allude to it?

wow another great use of taxpayer moneys... if prostitution were legal this would probably not happen in public places... Also funny that they noted the cops waited a bit before approaching the car...

I am glad they were caught. It may not seem like a huge crime, as stated by djm, but I don't think I would want to walk by or my kids walk by and see that kind of activity taking place. Regardless of the gender or chosen profession, public acts such as this should not happen.

I appreciate that the homophobic comment by another user, implying that this type of activity (by a presumably straight married man), is at all representative of what relationships between gay men are about was removed. Having said that, the officers were just doing their duty- prostitution is illegal, and people should not be having sex in cars at public parks- and the gender of the two individuals is as irrelevant to the article as their race so I'm not sure why the writer chose to include it.

Umm...the job of the police is to enforce the laws. If you don't like the laws, talk to the lawmakers.
