Two teenagers arrested after OnStar helps deputies find stolen vehicle in Ypsilanti
An OnStar vehicle security system led Washtenaw County sheriff's deputies to a stolen car Sunday night, and two teenagers found inside were arrested, police said.
Sometime between 9 p.m. and 11:45 p.m., someone opened an unlocked door of a vehicle parked in the 500 block of Pinewood Street in Ypsilanti Township and stole it, a sheriff's summary said. The keys were left inside the car.
The OnStar system led deputies to the vehicle in the 700 block of Green Road in Ypsilanti. A 17-year-old girl from Ypsilanti and 15-year-old boy from Ypsilanti Township were inside, the summary said.
The girl was taken to the Washtenaw County Jail, and the boy was turned over to a parent. The case will be forwarded to the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office for review for criminal charges, the summary said.

Leaving the car unlocked with the keys in the ignition is an open invitation. The owners of the car should be billed for any police time and costs, if nothing else.

Possibly checking to see if the OnStar system really worked?

Back in the days you were able to lay your keys right up under the front seat. I did bulky keys in your packet. In terms of about 30 years ago. Now I tape a quarter to the bumper for them to take it. Still here!!!!!!!

That's ridiculous! I couldn't fathom leaving my keys in an unlocked vehicle to begin with; but audaciously stealing someone's automobile...forget it, you couldn't pay me to do such a gosh awful deed!
