Vandals target mailboxes in Webster Township

About a dozen mailboxes on Lori Lynn Lane in rural Webster Township were damaged early Monday morning.

Deputies from the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office suspect it is the work of vandals.

Police were dispatched to the neighborhood near the intersection of NorthTerritorial Road West and Webster Church Road around 2 a.m. Monday and found the lane littered with mangled mailboxes.

“There were a lot that were damaged or completely broken,” said Sgt. Geoffrey Fox of the sheriff’s office.

The mailboxes seemed to have been hit with a vehicle or physically damaged by the hands of the suspects, according to police. A blunt object like a baseball bat may also have been involved.

“It appeared as if they were hit with a car or backed into,” Fox said.

Police don’t think the area was targeted.

“Due to the random nature, I wouldn’t say it was a specific attack on anybody,” Fox said.

Deputies don’t have any suspects at this time. They continue to investigate.
