Woman fends off man attempting to sexually assault her, Ann Arbor police say

By Lee Higgins

A 19-year-old woman fended off a man attempting to sexually assault her in southeast Ann Arbor this morning by kicking him in the groin, Ann Arbor police said.

The victim was walking east on Packard Road near where it intersects with Whitewood Street about 1 a.m., when a man walked up behind her, police said.

He put his arms around her and attempted to put his hands down the front of her pants, according to police.

The victim was able to free herself, kick the man in the groin area and get away, police said. A detailed description of the man was not available.

Anyone with information can call the department's tip line at (734) 794-6939.

Good for her! I'm sure she was scared, but she was able to fend off her attacker. Remember ladies, a well placed kick in a number of places can render your attacker somewhat incapacitated. A strong kick to the groin is a painful impact but a strong kick to a knee, hyper-entending it and or breaking it results in an almost impossible run from the law. And don't forget your fingernails, gouging eyes out may not be your first choice, but protecting yourself is not something to take time to stop and think about. Take action if possible, and if you find yourself unable to safely defend yourself and do not resist, REMEMBER...your attacker is a criminal and you are not!

Good for the would be victim! I can only hope that she is also an athlete, like a place kicker on a footbal team...

I always love stories where potential rape victims fight back without dire consequences. But sometimes it is important to remember in cases where the victim chooses not to fight back, she isn't at all at fault.
