Ann Arbor Police have a woman in custody as they investigate the death of an 86-year-old man.

Spokeswoman Renee Bush said the 48-year-old woman in custody is known to the victim, who was found dead in a home in the 1700 block of Covington Drive on the west side of Ann Arbor.

Police went to the one-story home in the neighborhood surrounding Dicken Elementary School shortly before 2 p.m. after a 911 call.

Police are treating the case as a homicide investigation, Bush said. No one outside the suspect in custody is believed to be involved in the incident, she said.

Marilyn Tower, who lives in a house across the street from the one where the man was found, said she saw a woman being handcuffed outside the home.

At least five police cars were parked on the street near the home about 2:30 p.m., and several police officers were standing in front of and to the side of the house. An ambulance was parked on the street, but left the scene. Huron Valley Ambulance spokeswoman Joyce Williams said paramedics did not transport anyone.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.

Fox2 reports that the woman who was arrested is the victim's daughter.

"Marilyn Turner, who lives in a house across the street ..." Maybe Ann Arbor.com could ask Marilyn when we're going to get some rain. (time for the "youngsters" to Google "Marilyn Turner")

I preferred Sonny Elliot, although I must admit Marilyn was easier on the eyes.

Wow if this is a homicide it's been some time since we've had one in Ann Arbor, I don't even remember the last. My condolences to the family of the deceased.

Reply to DBH...The woman in custody, suspected of committing the crime is an ADOPTED daughter....not blood relation. This is according to the A2.com story shortly after the crime happened,

@anti-thug, can you recall any details (names, locations, etc.) about the self defense homicide or homicides between 2005 and 2009 to which you refer? I don't remember any in Ann Arbor.

we had a few self defense homicide and accidental deaths ....bettween 2005 and 2009..other then that we had some non- fatal shooting and stabings.

@Tesla, I think you are wrong on that count. If you can think of one (I can't), or find one reported somewhere (I couldn't), I for one would like to know.

I'm no statistician or google engineer but I have to believe there has been homicides in A2 since 2004 or 2009. No big deal. I don't want to argue. All I was saying is a lot of people confuse Homicide and Murder. *shrugs*

So, @Tesla, I take it that you meant "You're PROBABLY confusing Homicide with Murder."? From what I can gather, there have been no reported homicides in Ann Arbor since 2004, with one exception in 2009. My brief research indicates that it was the killing of a 9-month-old boy at University Hospital on 8/28/09. His mother, Amber Marie Murphy of Jackson, was arraigned on 6/6/12 on charges of first-degree murder and first-degree child abuse. See http://www.mlive.com/news/jackson/index.ssf/2012/06/woman_arraigned_on_first-degre.html for the story. MyFoxDetroit is reporting that the 48 year old woman arrested in the homicide investigation of the 86 year old man is his daughter. See http://www.myfoxdetroit.com/story/18747531/elderly-ann-arbor-man-murdered .

My comment was that the person said a homicide hasn't happened in A2 in a long time and thats probably not true. A "Murder" probably is fairly rare. I believe frustrated is thinking Murder not Homicide as described by DNB....Thanks DNB.

It DOES happen in Ann Arbor....you are too close to Ypsilanti.

Thanks, @DNB, but I knew all of that. My question to @Tesla (and, now, to you) is why anyone thinks @Frustrated in A2 is "...confusing Homicide with Murder" when the Ann Arbor Police Department spokeswoman Renee Bush is quoted as saying that the police are treating the case as a homicide investigation.

DNB

Sun, Jun 10, 2012 : 2:58 a.m.

DBH: Murder and homicide are both used to describe the act of killing another human being, but the circumstances surrounding the charges are different. The easiest way to describe the differences between murder and homicide is that homicide is the killing of another human being, while murder requires the intent to kill another human being. Homicide can be used to describe any death where another person is at fault, but there are mitigating circumstances that can influence the charge of homicide. When someone is convicted of murder, however, they are not only convicted of a homicide, but also the malicious intent to kill.

@Tesla, how so? From the story, "Police are treating the case as a homicide investigation, Bush said."
