Woman in stable condition, man arrested after hit and run early Friday

By Kyle Feldscher

A 33-year-old Ypsilanti Township woman suffered broken bones and head trauma after being struck by a vehicle in a hit and run incident early Friday, according to police.

Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Derrick Jackson said the woman was crossing Ecorse Road while walking down Hayes Street when she was struck. Jackson said deputies responded to the area at 2 a.m. Friday, and the woman was transported to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital.

The suspect had fled the scene, and deputies began their investigation with no suspect information, Jackson said. About an hour after responding to the area, deputies canvassing the area found a vehicle that had damage consistent with a pedestrian collision.

A 23-year-old Ypsilanti Township man was arrested on suspicion of causing a hit and run and has been lodged at the Washtenaw County Jail. He is scheduled to be arraigned Saturday, Jackson said.

The woman is in stable condition at St. Joe’s, but a full medical report was not available Friday afternoon.

The case still is under investigation. Anyone with information on the collision is encouraged to call the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office anonymous tip line at 734-973-7711.

Don't know how well lit that area is at two o'clock in the morning, but ALL motorists should have their headlights on when driving after sunset and before sunrise.

There are street lights, and you have o come almost to a stop to turn there. There are walkers in that area all night long.
