Woman raped by stranger in Ypsilanti, police say

By Lee Higgins

A 19-year-old woman reported being raped by a stranger Thursday night in the 1200 block of Cornell Road in Ypsilanti, police said.

The woman was walking to her car in an apartment complex parking lot at 9:30 p.m. when a man grabbed her, forced her into the back seat of his car, held her down and raped her, a police media summary said.

The rape occurred after the woman rejected the man's advances, an Eastern Michigan University police alert said.

When the man initially drove into the parking lot, several men were with him, but they got out and left in another vehicle, the alert said.

According to the alert, the suspect let the victim go after several minutes. He left the area in a four-door black Kia Soul, police said.

The victim ran to an apartment after the assault and went with a friend to a local hospital several hours later, the alert said. That's when she was interviewed by investigators, police said.

The attacker was described as black, with a light complexion, 6 feet tall, 210 to 220 pounds and in his mid-30s. Anyone with information can call police at (734) 483-9510.

Lets not forget Orange Taylor III and Germaine schropshire: Both convicted of CSC on the E.M.U campus. R.I.P- Laura Dickenson I will not forget what Orange Taylor III did to you. Students beware lock your doors and travel in groups. There are bad people on the prowl and it appears the community and the school don't do much to stop it.

The release sent to the university did not mention the word "rape". It stated "Criminal Sexual Conduct" which could mean anything from groping, fondling, up to rape. There was much more to the Ypsilanti police report that you did not include in there, including the type of car; a Black Kia Soul, 4 door, license plate not known.
