Woman robbed at gunpoint in Ypsilanti Township

By Lee Higgins

A woman was robbed at gunpoint this morning in the 5000 block of Bridge Road in Ypsilanti Township, a Washtenaw County Sheriff's Department media summary said.

The victim was walking in a parking lot when a man drove up in a sport utility vehicle, exited and pulled out a handgun at 2:55 a.m., the summary said.

He told the victim to "drop" everything, the summary said. Deputies say after the victim dropped her backpack and purse, the man picked up the items and left in his SUV, traveling north on Bridge Road.

The man was described as black, 5 feet, 9 inches tall, 150 pounds, 25 years old and was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and black sweatpants, the summary said. He was clean-shaven and had short black hair.

The SUV was black — possibly a Ford Explorer, the summary said. Anyone with information can call the sheriff department's tip line at (734) 973-7711.

Carl maybe she forgot something in her car in the parking lot or had just returned home...there could be many reasons but it does not matter at all because nobody has the right to assault or rob ANY human in this country. I'd really appreciate an article from a2.com (maybe Kinsey?) about self defense laws. It occurred to me the other day that I really don't know for sure how the law would treat me if I reacted in various ways in response to an attack or a home invasion. What if I don't have a handgun? Can I stab them? In what instances can I use deadly force? In what instances (if any) can someone NOT use deadly force when most of us believe you can?

What on earth could possibly possess a woman to be at that location at 2:55 in the morning? Fishing for carp off the dam? Salmon running upstream in the Huron?

Lots of problems happen in that area. A while back a rape was reported at the park just up the road. Not to mention the apartment complex on Grove/Bridge that has been a nightmare for the township and law enforcement for years. I would steer clear of that area; especially at night.
