Woman reports sexual assault in Manchester
Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office deputies are investigating a report of a sexual assault on a 22-year-old woman in Manchester last week, according to an alert sent out Tuesday.
Sheriff’s office spokesperson Derrick Jackson said the 22-year-old woman was walking to her car in the parking lot of Martinrea, 1051 M-52, at about 10:30 p.m. on Nov. 1 when an unknown man grabbed her from behind.
Jackson said the woman reported being fondled and released by the man, who then walked away from the area.
The woman got in her car and left the area. Sheriff’s deputies were contacted shortly after the incident and have been investigating since last week. There is no suspect description of the suspect available, Jackson said.
Jackson said the sheriff’s office put out the alert to let residents know the assault was not related to a rape in Clinton in Lenawee County on Sept. 29. An unknown man raped a woman who was jogging in a park in the town near Manchester.
Jackson said sheriff’s deputies have been working with the Clinton Police Department and have determined there is no connection between the rape in Clinton and the sexual assault in Manchester.
Last week’s sexual assault is still under investigation, Jackson said.
