Ypsilanti man arrested after trying to flee and elude police on his moped

By AnnArbor.com Staff

Ypsilanti police arrested a 21-year-old Ypsilanti man on the 800 block of Frederick early Friday morning after he refused to stop and eluded them briefly on his moped, according to the police department.

Sgt. Kevin Dorsey said they wanted to talk to him as part of an investigation; he declined to give details on that investigation. The man drove for about 30 seconds in an attempt to escape but stopped after about 30 seconds, Dorsey said.

Officials discovered he was wanted on warrants out of Ypsilanti Police and Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Department and he was arrested. Dorsey cited the warrants as a reason the suspect did not want to stop initially.

He will face charges of fleeing and eluding, Dorsey said.

Nothin' changes, when I was a deputy in 1979, a guy tried to outrun us on E. Forest Ave. in Ypsi riding a bicycle with a motor and a propeller attached to his back. He didn't get away either....

So it took 30 seconds to realize his whopping top speed of ~30mph wasn't going to cut it??? Genius!
