A 76-year-old Ypsilanti man convicted last month by an Oakland County jury in a sexual assault case was sentenced Wednesday to 9 to 22 years in a state prison, officials said.

Dervin Mood was found guilty by a jury of one count of third-degree criminal sexual conduct for an assault that took place in Orion Township, prosecutors said.

Mood also faces a consecutive sentence of two to five years in prison for violating a federal probation, said Ypsilanti police Det. Annette Coppock.

In Washtenaw County, Mood is also scheduled for a jury trial on five charges of CSC stemming from incidents that took place at his home in the 900 block of Pleasant Drive in Ypsilanti.

The male victim in both the Oakland and Washtenaw county cases is now an adult, but prosecutors say he was assaulted at the ages of 12,15,16 and 19 between 2003 and 2011. The man has Asperger’s syndrome and other mental health issues.

Mood was on federal court probation for possession of child pornography when he was charged in the Washtenaw County case. He is a former school teacher and child care provider.

The Washtenaw County trial is scheduled to begin on April 29.

This guy gave up his right to be part of society when he got into kiddy porn. Prison is too good for him.

This guy's already fully booked until he'll be over 100. Mission accomplished, as they say. With courts still making unpopular plea bargains simply to save time, why waste resources further prosecuting the schmuck?
