Ypsilanti man shot twice outside apartment on city's south side

By Cindy Heflin

A 35-year-old Ypsilanti man was shot twice early Friday while standing with other people in front of an apartment on the city's south side, police said.

The man underwent surgery at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Superior Township for his injuries, police said in a news release, but further information about his condition was not immediately available.

Police said the man was standing with several other people in front of an apartment around 12:05 a.m. in the 600 block of Armstrong Drive when someone fired several shots from an open area behind him and people began to scatter. The victim fell to the ground and was lying there when police arrived. He was wounded in the thigh and buttocks, police said.

The suspect is a man, police indicated in the news release, but no description was immediately available. Police continue to investigate.

Anyone with information in the case is asked to contact Detective Sergeant Thomas Eberts at (734) 482-9878 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800- SPEAK UP.

At-lest Ypsi hasn't lost its soul to the corp. wiki site "It has been said that Ypsilanti is the Brooklyn to Ann Arbor's Manhattan.[14] Comparable to the gentrification causing many artists, poets, musicians, and hipsters to flee the Lower East Side of Manhattan in New York City to areas like Bushwick, nearby Ann Arbor has experienced massive increases in land value and taxes over the last several decades. Despite Ann Arbor's reputation in the region as a bohemian cultural center, many creative people have been driven out of the city to Ypsilanti due to these changes. A vibrant, underground arts scene has begun to emerge as a result.[15] This community gathers semiannually at the juried Shadow Art Fair held at The Corner Brewery.[16]"

I hope the victim is ok. NOTHING good happens after midnight, much less in that section of town. I will use that great description and keep my eyes open for "a man." WAIT, I see him!.......oops, sorry it was just a mirror.

What were we doing at 12:05 am outside with a group? Bedtime is 9 pm, unless there's a Tiger's game on........ If they'd been inside at night, wouldn't have been a problem....At least they didn't blame it on the gun.......

"The suspect is a man, police indicated in the news release, but no description was immediately available. Police continue to investigate." Incorrect...a "man" doesn't fire wildly into a crowd of people because they want to shoot a single individual. This is more apt behavior for a cowardly child.
