Ypsilanti police arrest man accused of burglarizing downtown business
A 47-year-old man was arrested early today after Ypsilanti police say he burglarized an African hair braiding business on West Michigan Avenue.
Officers were called to the business in the 200 block of West Michigan Avenue at 1:10 a.m. on a report that the door had been smashed, police said.
When officers arrived, they discovered the back door made of glass had been taken out and set aside, reports said. They found a man who was in possession of burglary tools, walking just feet away in an alley, reports said.
Police said they gathered evidence at the scene possibly linking the tools the suspect had with the damage to gain entry to the business. The inside of the business was ransacked and a tip jar was possibly taken, reports said.
The suspect, who is homeless, was jailed pending a review of the case by prosecutors, reports said.
