Ypsilanti police nab teenage suspect believed to be responsible for series of home invasions

By John Counts

A 16-year-old Ypsilanti Township boy suspected of breaking into homes and stealing electronics and a mini-bike was arrested Thursday.

Several residences in the 700 block of Stanley Street in the city of Ypsilanti were targeted for home invasions, attempted home invasions and the entering of a garage over the past three weeks, according to a news release from the Ypsilanti Police Department.

The incidents are believed to have taken place between June 15 and July 5, when the teen was arrested in the area where the thefts occurred. According to police, laptop computers, an alarm box and a mini-bike were stolen in that time period. Among the victims were a 43-year-old woman and 38-year-old man, both of Ypsilanti, who knew the suspect.

The 16-year-old confessed to the home invasions in the area of Stanley Street when questioned by detectives, police said. He also confessed to a home invasion in Ypsilanti Township. Some of the stolen property has been recovered.

The teen is lodged at the Juvenile Detention Center awaiting a court hearing that is expected to take place sometime Friday.

Charge im as an adult and take him off of the street. His parents don't care, so do their work for them.

Society still needs to find the parents and hold them accountable. The solution to out of control kids remains with parents. Until society reinforces this, bad parents will keep their poor parenting habits and expect others to do their job of proper parenting.

It woild be hard to judge this (child) not knowing the parents or family. No answers here.

I do not believe there could be any excuse for this boys behavior. He is 16. What he did is just plain wrong. If he stole food because he was hungry, maybe some slack depending on the situation. Stealing electronics, etc. - no excuse.

Hold the parents accountable and responsible too. Throw them in jail with the son. Maybe parents will learn and get more involved with the proper parenting of their kids.
