Ypsilanti police remove loaded revolver from apartment

By Lee Higgins

Ypsilanti police officers removed a loaded revolver from a Pearl Street apartment early this morning after a man who lived there gave them consent to search it, a police incident log said.

Officers approached a group of people sitting on the apartment's front porch in the street's 300 block at about 12:53 a.m. and asked to speak with the man inside, the log said.

He allowed officers inside and agreed to let them search the apartment, where they found a .38-caliber Smith & Wesson revolver above a ceiling tile, the log said.

The gun had three live rounds in the cylinder.

The man told officers the gun belonged to another man who was inside his apartment earlier in the day, using drugs, according to the log.

Officers removed the gun as they investigate.

It was probably removed to verify its proper ownership. IF it was legally owned and properly registered, and the owner was not present, the others in possession of it would have to have a valid Concealed Pistol License. You cannot "lend" or "borrow" a handgun unless you have a CPL. The above is all assuming the gun was legal. If it was not legally owned, than it's pretty obvious why it was removed. Just some ideas.

Police found the gun *above* a ceiling tile--pretty impressive; I presume it was not visible at all.

What was the reason for removing the gun?
