Ypsilanti police say two downtown business burglaries appear to be connected
Ypsilanti police say a break-in discovered at a business on West Michigan Avenue Saturday morning is likely connected to a similar burglary earlier that morning.
At 9:30 a.m. Saturday, an employee of a business in the 10 block of West Michigan Avenue discovered the front door was forced open and the office was rifled through, a police media summary said.
The break-in occurred between 12:30 p.m. Friday and 9:30 a.m. Saturday, reports said. Cash was stolen from the business.
Police suspect the break-in was committed by the same man accused of burglarizing an African hair braiding business on West Michigan Avenue at 1:10 a.m. Saturday, reports said.
Officers were called to that business in the 200 block of West Michigan Avenue and discovered the back glass door had been removed, and a tip jar was likely missing, reports said.
Officers arrested a 47-year-old homeless man in possession of burglary tools near the scene. He was jailed pending a review by prosecutors.
The investigation is continuing, police said.
