Ypsilanti police Taser man after he fights with officers, city police say

By Lee Higgins

Ypsilanti police used a Taser on a man early Saturday after they say he wrapped his hands around an officer's neck and said, "I'm going to kill you."

The 18-year-old man, who police say was intoxicated, was taken into custody. No information was available on what he's being charged with.

Police officials did not have further details this afternoon.

Officers found the man lying in the grass under a small tree on Burton Court about 1:23 a.m., a police report said.

Officers shook him and he sat up, but refused to answer questions, according to the report.

When the man stood, "he balled his fists and challenged officers," police said.

As two officers grabbed him and told him to relax, another officer began to pat him down, according to the report.

The man elbowed the officer in the head, the report said.

Officers attempted to wrestle the man to the ground, but he broke free, falling on his back, police said.

The man then attempted to punch an officer and put his hands around the officer's neck, the report said.

The man was Tasered, taken into custody, and later brought to the hospital because he was intoxicated, police said.

Taken to the hospital? Why being drunk isn't a medical condition. It's a legal issue, throw him in jail and charge him. Then make him pay for all the trouble he's caused. My son was an ER nurse and they hate having to "Guard" a belligerent drunk. The police just drop them off and leave them for the nurses to deal with.
