Daughter of Ann Arbor City Council Member Marcia Higgins dies at 31
Meredith Higgins, 31, the daughter of Ann Arbor City Council Member Marcia Higgins, D-4th Ward, died late last week after a long battle with cancer.
An obituary notice stated she passed away Thursday at Arbor Hospice. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Generations Funeral and Cremation Services.
Meredith Higgins leaves behind a 10-year-old daughter. Friends say a fund has been established at the Bank of Ann Arbor to help provide for her care.
Marcia Higgins, who was re-elected in November, has been out of the public eye in recent months while attending to her daughter.
“I think I speak for all of council as well as our city staff in expressing our very sincere condolences and in recognizing the strength and the love that Marcia has shown over the past months and years during which her daughter faced this disease,” Council Member Margie Teall, who represents the 4th Ward along with Higgins, said today in a written statement. “I would also like to recognize the courage that Meredith’s daughter has demonstrated throughout this period, and to share our support for Marcia’s entire family.”
A memorial service likely will be held after Christmas, according to family friends. A full obituary is expected to follow in a future edition of AnnArbor.com.
