Washtenaw County deputies seize car during investigation into hit-and-run that injured 11-year-old boy

By Lee Higgins

Washtenaw County sheriff’s deputies seized a red Chevrolet Lumina on Thursday during their investigation into a hit-and-run crash in Ypsilanti Township that critically injured an 11-year-old boy.

Investigators seized the car about 11 p.m. in Superior Township after obtaining a search warrant, said Derrick Jackson, the sheriff department's director of community engagement. Jackson said he could not be more specific about where the car was seized.

So far, no one has been charged. The woman who had the car when it was seized could not be reached for comment today.

Jackson said the boy who was struck is recovering at the University of Michigan Hospital and has been able to speak with police.

Investigators were led to the car after receiving tips from a number of Superior Township residents, Jackson said. The car's front passenger side headlight was recently repaired, Jackson said. Deputies had been looking for a burgundy or red Chevrolet Lumina with front passenger side damage, including a missing headlight.

On April 24, the boy was with two friends when he was struck about 11:20 p.m. by a car traveling north on Prospect Road, investigators said. The boys had left a home on the road where they were hanging out, Jackson said. It was raining, but it's unclear whether slick roads were a factor.

Jackson said the car struck the boy, pulled off the road onto a grassy area, stopped briefly, then continued down the road and left the scene. Deputies were unable to obtain a description of the driver.

Agree dading. i hope the car seized is the right car. I hope the driver of the car involved in said hit-n-run is hit with serious felony charges, that will, upon conviction, lead to a long prison term
