Details released in fatal crash on US-23

By AnnArbor.com Staff

The car in which a driver died during a crash on US-23 Friday afternoon flipped several times after another vehicle hit it, according to additional information released today by the Michigan State Police.

According to the state police, the collision killed Brandon Robert Rapp, a 25-year-old resident of Algonac.

The crash occurred shortly after 4 p.m. Friday on US-23 near Michigan Avenue in Pittsfield Township. The state police said a southbound Dodge Durango crossed the freeway median and ran into a pickup truck heading north, then also hit a northbound Chrysler Le Baron. The Chrysler "somersaulted several times" and landed in a ditch, the report said.

The Chrysler driver, who was wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Durango driver was taken to the hospital; no condition report was available. The pickup driver declined medical attention.

The state police said it is not yet known whether speed or alcohol were a factor in the crash.

The incident closed both sides of US-23 for several hours Friday.

Has anyone noticed that there has been no mention of this since that weekend? Why has the Durango driver's name not been released? He caused an accident that killed someone. No word of what caused the accident either. Is something being covered up here?

I was traveling on US-23 northbound @ 1 week ago and witnessed a woman driving a Monte Carlo cross the median about 75 yards in front of me. She was lucky and literally bounced back into the median after crossing the northbound lanes without hitting any other drivers. Scared me so that I exited at US-12 and took secondary roads to my destination. I pray for everyone involved in the incident last Friday.

I saw it much closer than I wanted to. I prayed for everyone involved and Brandon's family. God has a plan for him. I'm so sorry for your loss.
