About 20 ninth-grade students from Cass Technical High School in Detroit tried their hand at a variety of medical and surgical procedures Thursday as a part of the "Doctors of Tomorrow" program at the University of Michigan.
The mentor program began in October and connects high school students in under-served areas to career enrichment activities at U-M.
The four-year partnership between Cass Tech and U-M also includes health-related capstone project work by the students, job shadowing and college admissions workshops.
Thursday, the participating students visited the Clinical Simulation Center at University Hospital where they were able to practice surgical techniques using laparoscopic devices and the da Vinci Robotic Surgical System, where AnnArbor.com photographer Melanie Maxwell shot these photos.
