Dexter High School, Community High School win national high school publication awards
Journalists from two Washtenaw County high schools have won the highest possible honor in high school journalism.
The staff of The Squall from Dexter High School and the staff of The Communicator from Ann Arbor's Community High School were both awarded Pacemaker awards by the National Scholastic Press Association over the weekend.
The prizes are considered the Pulitizer Prize of high school journalism.
This is the first win for Community. Dexter won previously for the 2005-06 school year and the 2007-08 school year.
The awards cover the 2008-09 school year.

Apologies to Jennifer Haines, my comment was in response to Basic Bob.

Ms. Hanes, the story does not "advocate taking illegal stimulants." It does explain why some people do so, and presents a number of counter-arguments as well. It also makes the very point you end your comment here with.

Yes, The Communicator is a nice-looking website. However, I am horrified that the Communicator Staff is advocating taking illegal stimulants to improve test scores. IMO, it is a form of cheating, and it is unethical for this paper to support it. If one gets into a prestigious school solely by cheating, it discriminates against someone who is better qualified. People who suffer from ADHD take stimulants because they work differently in their brain than most people. They actually calm them down, not just get them high to bring them up to a normal level.

Congratulations to the team of the Communicator. It's a great publication and speaks to the really amazing work of young adults with an inspiring leader! I am not familiar with the Squall, but kudos to their team as well.
