Jaime Dudash, a social studies teacher at Dexter High School, is among the finalists for Michigan Teacher of the Year.

Others finalists in Region II for the 2010-2011 award include: Shirley Hazlett, a language arts/social studies teacher from Willow Elementary School in Lansing Public Schools; and Matinga Ragatz, a world history/global studies/world languages teacher from Grand Ledge High School.

Region II, one of seven MTOY regions in the state, includes all of the school districts within the intermediate school districts of Clinton, Eaton, Ingham, Ionia, Kent, Livingston, Montcalm and Washtenaw. Each region can submit up to three Michigan Teacher of the Year finalists.

Dudash, from Washtenaw County, has taught for 14 years.

This spring, four state finalists will be chosen from among all the regional winners sent to MDE.  One will be selected as the 2010-2011 Michigan Teacher of the Year.

The winner will serve as the voice of Michigan teachers and represent teachers at the state Board of Education meetings from August 2010 to June 2011.
