Dexter Village sewer and water rates to increase by 3 percent
For the sixth year in a row, Dexter Village residents will see the same millage rate on their tax bills.
However, as has been the case the last few years, they will see an increase in their water and sewer bills, which will climb by 3 percent, while trash fees will remain unchanged.
So, for example, a family using 10,000 gallons of water during a two-month billing cycle will see an increase of $3.74 on their total bill or a $1.87 per month increase.
Residents are billed every two months and the increases follow a rate study that was done by the village’s consultant several years ago.
Village trash rates will remain steady at $35 for the two-month period, or $17.50 per month.
Monday night, the Village Council held a public hearing for its proposed millage rate, its water and sewer rate increases as well as its proposed $3.176 million operating budget.
No one spoke at any of the three public hearings.
The proposed millage rate for real and personal property is 13.5562 mills, which includes 9.8151 mills for operations, 2.8874 mills for streets and 0.8537 for debt. “Overall, the millage rate is the same,” said Dexter Treasurer Marie Sherry. “It’s been the same rate since 2006.”
The council unanimously approved the proposed millage rate and the proposed water, sewer and trash rates and it’s expected to approve the proposed budget on June 27.
The village’s fiscal year runs from July 1-June 30.
