Dexter woman hospitalized after driving into pond off I-94

By Erica Hobbs

A Dexter woman was hospitalized Saturday after driving into a pond, according to the Ann Arbor Fire Department.

Lt. Randy Menard said the woman, 39, was driving eastbound on I-94, east of Liberty Road, when her minivan ran off the freeway about 100 feet into a pond.

The woman crawled out of the passenger side door and landed face down into about 2-3 feet of water, Menard said.

He said two passersby stopped to help and pulled the woman out of the water onto the shore.

Menard said the woman was taken to the University of Michigan Health System and sustained no serious injuries.

He said the cause of the accident is under investigation.

I'm Shelly, and I am the one you helped! It's all kind of a blur, but I remember a lot of people were there trying to get me out of the water and onto the shore. Thank you! I owe you guys some clothes, blankets and towels. I am home now, a few bruises, but I'm fine. Thanks to all of you, my four daughters still have their mother. I am so grateful.

It is wonderful to hear so many people today care for others and are their to help. My daughter and son-in-law were two of those that stopped to help and I am proud of them.

It;s nice to know that there are people out there still that will stop and help. It's better then hearing about all the negative in the news all the time. 15-20 people stopping to help is a better number than I would of thought.

I was one of the people who stopped. My husband was one of the men who jumped in and helped. But there were more than 2 people that stopped to help. There were roughly 15 - 20. I gave my coat to wrap around her to advoid shock as well as a lot of others giving whatever they had to help keep her warm. I am so proud of all who stopped to help. WAY TO GO GUYS!!! Glad to hear she is doing well....
