Central Street reconstruction project in Dexter set to begin Monday

By Lisa Allmendinger

The Village of Dexter is ready to begin its second large construction project of the spring, this time the reconstruction of Central Street.

Coming at the heals of its Main Street road project, the Central Street reconstruction will take place from the Mast Road Bridge to Second Street and is slated to begin Monday.

This means single-lane traffic in the area, which will be handled similar to the Washtenaw County Road Commission’s Mast Road Bridge project last year.

The Central Street project includes the reconstruction of the roadway, improvements to the area surrounding the railroad crossing, the addition of sidewalks on both sides of the road and underground storm sewer improvements.

Two-way traffic will be maintained with a single lane using temporary traffic signals. However, Second Street and Huron Street will be closed at Central Street.

The project is expected to last through mid-August.

It would be nice to have a map showing where the work is being done and where the detour will be located.
