Dexter man killed when ATV strikes fence, overturns
A 23-year-old Dexter man was killed early this morning when his ATV struck a fence and overturned several times in Dexter Township, according to the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Department.
A passenger was also riding on the all-terrain vehicle when the crash occurred at 1:44 a.m., but he was not injured, according to a news release.
Police said several ATV riders were traveling off-road parallel to Riker Road near Orchard Ridge when one of the ATVs struck a fence and overturned.
The driver was taken to the University of Michigan Hospital, and died of his injuries, the news release said. The passenger, a 22-year-old Dexter man, did not require medical attention, police said.
Police have not released the names of those involved. The cause of the crash remains under investigation, police said.
